My favorite was an interview he had with Condolezza Rice back in March of 2005.

They had a serious discussion about middle eastern politics, but it ended with Russert grilling Rice about running for president in '08. It was playful, and light. She tried desperately to squirm out of an answer. But Russert plugged away, quick-fire style until he got his quote. It came at the tail end of a serious interview, but for whatever it's worth, it was my favorite exchange:

I don't know - even if it is a staged kind of campaign thing - he seems like he actually gives a crap. Does Washington care? I don't know, but I think Obama does.

And if he doesn't, hey, you fool me once...eh,...uh... you can't get fooled again.

I do not know about any specific interview but, I think that with every interview he gave you learned something and thats a hard thing to get in news these days. Even if you disagreed with what he was saying or the way he set up the interview you found a perspective that you would not have gained if you did not watch. With Bill O'Rielly and Hanity on Fox and Keith Obermann now the new faces of news. (the see who can shock and scream the loudest and yet gain nothing but mindless hate and no information on issues) The calm and professional matter that Tim brought to his craft will sorely be missed in my house and everyone who cares about this country.

I think your description of Tim Russert rummaging "around like a big grizzly bear, pawing at campaign literature, making calculated, deliberate observations," is a beautiful impression to share.

I would think though that McCain voters have no idea what the internet is I mean any undecided voters are going to vote party lines. The only wild card a moderate republicans and I think Obama will win more of that group than McCain. I do though like the the idea, makes sense to get out a head of the smears.

Ah, yes, realism--but this is the funhouse of politics--where the perception of merit is everything--plus, Hillary "learned from her mistakes" in the '90s on the health care deal--right?

Why are we all working under the premise that Hillary is entitled to anything? She's been nothing more than distraction for the Democratic party these past few months and I don't understand how this is to be rewarded with special assignments. Furthermore, just because a person TALKS a lot about health care doesn't mean their health care strategy will be effective. And I'll have to check the history on this, but didn't she have at least a good 6 years to get the Clinton plan rolling the first time? If she were the right woman for the job I'd say, good show, but I'm not convinced

To your observations:
1. Yes
2. Yes, but only if Bill is made co-Vice President on the hush
3. It was painful to watch the McCain Louisiana speech. If the vote were to be made on effective speaking, this contest is over before the campaign ever begins. BHO is a rare talent that makes even some old West Texas GOP hard liners to give pause. I am waiting for more substance and details but the delivery and appeal makes me at least stop, look and listen.
