I remember when I was a kid growing up in Texas, and they taught us in school that Texas could–according to the terms of its entry into the Union–split itself into FIVE states, if it wanted to do so.
For political analysts, it doesn’t need to–it already is AT LEAST FIVE states! Good story today from the Times on this.
